Flag maker

Make your own flag in the browser: pick a layout, add any of 167 symbols, download PNG or SVG. Free, no account, no watermark.

Make a flag in four moves

  1. Pick a layout. Start from a template, a pride flag or the default tricolour. Every piece is a layer you can recolour or delete.
  2. Set the field. Select the stripes layer to change the count (1–15), the direction and each colour. Tick “unequal widths” for layouts like Thailand’s 1:1:2:1:1.
  3. Add a charge. “+ Symbol” opens stars, crescents, suns, crosses, crowns, towers, anchors and letters. Drag it into place; it snaps to the centre and the thirds.
  4. Check and export. Ask for an AI review against the classic design principles, then download PNG, SVG or a black-and-white colouring outline.

Want a flag for a made-up country instead? The random and fictional flag generator can roll one for you or design one from a paragraph of lore. Building a medieval faction? Try the coat of arms maker or the swallowtails and gonfalons in the banner maker.

Built for worldbuilders, pride makers and game devs

28 classic layouts in 84 colourways, 34 pride and identity flags with correct colours, and six flag shapes including pennants and swallowtails. Everything renders as clean vector shapes, so a 16 px map icon and a 2 m printed banner come from the same file.

Questions

Is this flag maker really free?

Yes. Every symbol, template and export (PNG up to 2400 px wide and SVG) is free, with no watermark and no sign-up. The optional AI review is free too, with a small hourly limit per visitor.

Can I use flags I make here commercially?

The flags you design are yours. The symbols are simple geometric shapes drawn for VexilForge, so you can use your exported PNG or SVG in games, books, merchandise and videos. Check that your design does not copy a registered trademark or an official government flag where local law restricts that.

How do I make a flag on my phone?

Open this page on your phone, pick a starting template, then tap a symbol on the flag to select it and drag it with your finger. Colours, sizes and layers are in the panel below the flag. Download PNG saves the image to your downloads or photos.

Which size should I export?

Use SVG for printing, laser cutting or game engines that accept vectors, because it scales without blurring. Use the 2400 px PNG for a printed poster up to A4 or for social media, and the small PNG for chat, forums or a map marker.

What proportions should my flag have?

2:3 (height to width) is the most common ratio for national flags, and 1:2 is used by the United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries. Switzerland and Vatican City are square. The ratio menu above the canvas changes it instantly, and our flag ratios guide lists the proportions of real flags.

Where are my designs saved?

Your current design is kept in this browser’s local storage so it is still there when you come back. “Save” adds a copy to My flags on this device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. You can clear it all on the privacy page.
