Random flag generator
Roll a dozen flags for fictional countries at once, each with an invented name. Or describe your own nation and let the AI designer create its flag and explain the symbolism.
Fictional country flag generator
Tell it about your nation, faction, guild or city. The designer follows the same principles vexillologists use for real flags, and explains every colour and symbol in your world’s terms.
Why random flags look believable
Real national flags reuse a small set of layouts. Roughly a third of the world’s flags are simple horizontal or vertical stripes, and most use two or three colours from a short list: red, white, blue, green, yellow and black. The generator works the same way. It chooses from those layouts, pairs one dark colour with one light colour so the flag reads at a distance, and puts any symbol where real flags carry it: centred on a plain field, in the canton, or on the hoist triangle.
If you want to go beyond a random roll, the guide to designing a flag explains the five principles in more depth, and the coat of arms maker gives your nation a heraldic shield to match.
Questions
How does the random flag generator work?
Each roll picks a classic layout (bicolour, tricolour, Nordic cross, hoist triangle, canton, saltire, pall and more), two or three colours that contrast, and sometimes a charge placed where real flags put one. It also invents a pronounceable country name. Every flag has a seed number, so the same seed always gives the same flag.
Can it make a flag for my fictional country?
Yes. Describe your nation, faction or city in a sentence or a paragraph (its landscape, history, values, enemies) and the AI designer will pick a layout, colours and a symbol, and explain what each one means in your world. You can then fine-tune it in the full editor.
Are these real countries’ flags?
No. Layouts are borrowed from common vexillological patterns, so some results will resemble a real flag by coincidence. Names are generated from random syllables.
Can I use the generated flags in my game or book?
Yes. Download the PNG or SVG and use it freely. If a roll looks very close to a real country’s flag, tweak a colour or the symbol so readers do not confuse the two.
